Valentine’s Day Volunteer Event in Austin: Crafting Cards for Seniors 💌

Before Craft & Yap ATX became a full calendar of craft events in Austin, Texas…
there was the Cupid Project.

This Valentine’s Day volunteer event — where we create handmade cards for seniors in a nursing home near Southpark Meadows — is the event that started our entire community.

And this year marked our second annual Cupid Project.

What began as a simple idea — gathering people to make Valentine’s Day cards for seniors — turned into something much bigger. It became the foundation of Craft & Yap ATX.

How the Cupid Project Started Craft & Yap ATX

In our very first year, we hosted a small volunteer craft event in Austin focused on one thing: connection.

No big production.
No elaborate theme.
Just tables, art supplies, and people showing up to create something meaningful.

That night proved something important:

Austin doesn’t just want craft events.
Austin wants community.

The Cupid Project became the spark that grew into monthly craft nights, pop-ups, charm bars, private parties, and creative collaborations across the city.

And now, two years later, we’re still coming back to where it all began.

Our Second Annual Valentine’s Day Volunteer Event in Austin

This year, we proudly hosted our second annual Valentine’s Day volunteer event in Austin, again creating heartfelt cards for seniors in a nursing home near Southpark Meadows.

Each card included:

  • Handwritten messages of encouragement

  • Layered paper art and stickers

  • Personal notes filled with warmth and kindness

Many seniors in nursing homes don’t regularly receive mail or visitors. A handmade Valentine’s Day card can mean more than we realize.

This isn’t just a craft night.
It’s intentional creativity.

Why We Host Free Volunteer Craft Events in Austin

Most Craft & Yap ATX events are ticketed experiences — charm bars, themed craft workshops, and private parties.

But sometimes, we host free volunteer craft events in Austin that focus entirely on giving back.

Because this is how we started.

The Cupid Project is a reminder that:

  • Creativity can serve a purpose

  • Community can be built around kindness

  • Art can connect generations

Volunteer events ground us in our mission — to create welcoming spaces where creativity feels accessible and impactful.

The Cupid Project wasn’t just another event.

It was:

  • The first time strangers became friends

  • The first time creativity felt collective

  • The first time we realized this could become something bigger

Two years later, it still feels just as meaningful.
