Mermaid Pool Party in Austin: Inside Craft & Yap’s Dreamiest Summer Event

What happens when you combine crafting, a dreamy Austin pool, mermaid mirrors, local vendors, refreshing drinks, and an actual mermaid?

You get one of our favorite Craft & Yap events yet. 🧜‍♀️🫧

This summer, Craft & Yap transformed La Dolce Vita into an underwater-inspired creative escape for our Mermaid Mirrors + Pool Party — a one-of-a-kind craft event in Austin designed around creativity, community, and a little bit of mermaid magic.

And when we say we committed to the theme, we mean it.

An Austin Craft Night Turned Mermaid Pool Party

At Craft & Yap, we love taking a craft and building an entire experience around it.

For this event, that started with DIY mermaid mirrors. Guests created their own ocean-inspired mirrors using shells, pearls, gems, and other dreamy details while hanging out poolside at La Dolce Vita.

No two mirrors looked the same. Everyone put their own spin on the project, which is one of our favorite parts of hosting creative events — you don't need to consider yourself "artistic" to make something completely your own.

But we knew we couldn't stop at the craft.

If we were throwing a mermaid party, we were throwing a mermaid party.

Yes, There Was an Actual Mermaid

Our guests weren't the only ones making a splash.

We had a real-life mermaid join us in the pool, turning an already dreamy Austin summer evening into something that felt straight out of a movie.

Speaking of movies, Aquamarine played in the background while everyone crafted, swam, shopped, sipped, and hung out.

Guests were encouraged to dress for the occasion, too, and seeing everyone interpret the mermaid theme in their own way made the entire experience even more fun.

It wasn't just a craft class. It felt like stepping into our own little world for the evening.

Crafting, Swimming, Sipping & Shopping

One thing we're continuing to explore with Craft & Yap is how much more a craft event can become when creativity is just the starting point.

Throughout the Mermaid Pool Party, guests could move between different parts of the experience.

There were mermaid mirrors to create, a pool to jump into, a mimosa station, drinks from Unwell and Lapo's, curated secondhand and vintage beachy pieces from Fitz by Court, handmade shell accessories from YZ Collective, and goodies from some of our local favorites.

We even created a Message in a Bottle moment where guests could write a note to their future selves — a dream, wish, reminder, or something they're calling into their lives — and seal it away for the future.

Every little detail was designed to make the night feel like more than attending another event.

We wanted it to feel like an experience.

Creating More Than Craft Nights in Austin

Craft & Yap started because we wanted to create spaces where adults could make things, try something new, and actually connect with other people.

That's still at the center of everything we do.

You can come with your entire friend group, bring your bestie, make it a date night, or show up completely solo.

In fact, plenty of people come to Craft & Yap events on their own.

Crafting gives everyone something to do with their hands while conversations happen naturally around the table. There's no pressure to be an artist, know anyone beforehand, or even know exactly what you're doing.

You just show up.

We'll handle the rest.
